Besalú:
The town was designated " Historical-Artistic National Set" in 1966. It recalls us constantly the splendid moments of a city of counts, one of the morst importants in Catalonia from the ending of the 8th c. until the middle of 12th c. There existed, however, ancienter cultures confirmed by Iberian and Roman ceramics findings. Besalú is an important crossroad of regionsthat has always maintained a high agricultural level, favored, without doubt, by the waters of the river Fluvià..
Curiosity:
Francesc Cambó i Batlle, been born in Verges in the year 1876, was an eminent Catalan politician. He was a descendant of a family established in the city of Besalú from the 16th century. When his father, the first-born, got married, decided to live in Verges, but the whole family spended long seasons in Besalú.
In 1907, Francesc Cambó was declared Adoptive and Favorite Son of Besalú.
In 1947, he died in Buenos Aires, where he was in exile some years back.
He always attempted to maintain a direct relationship with the town of Besalú.
