RUTA Mare de Déu del Mont - Besalú
You should try to be in the intersection of the Hostal d'en Vilà (Vilà guesthouse) between 10h a.m and 11h a.m. Immediately, at right there is the detour to the villages of Cabanelles and Lladó. The asphaltic road takes until the Sanctuary of the Mare de Déu del Mont (Holy Mary of the Mountain). It is some 15 km long and it takes some 30 minutes to get up the slope with uneven sections, some bends of 80º and magnificent landscapes, especially during the last part. If you go on a clear day, binoculars are very helpful. In view from here are the Canigó Mountains, the Roses Bay, the lake of Banyoles and the valley of the Fluvià until Olot. In the case that you decide to eat in the restaurant of the Sanctuary, it is better to make a reservation when you arrive. All the alternatives are outside of the mountain: Lladó, Maiá, Besalú,... Descending 1,5 km you'll find the Monastery of Sant Llorenç of Sous (Saint Laurence), that can not be visited. Below, midway, there is the detour to Falgars. You should continue until the intersection with the highway N-260 and turn at right to Besalú.
You'll pass through the intersection to Maià de Montcal and Santa Madalena, that is also communicated with Seguero-Beuda-Palera by secondary roads.
Arrival to Besalú after few kilometres. There is a wide parking zone near the bridge: when you arrive at the intersecton to the road C-150, already in the town of Besalú, turn at left. After some meters, at right, there is the romanesque bridge, and below, also at right, the parking. That is the way to get into the town of Besalú just as in the medieval era. Who do not wish to simply go for an agreeable walk must know that some monuments can be closed. It is always better to ask in the Information and Tourism Office, situated in the Main Square. A detailed visit of the town takes 2h approximately.
